Values are our deeply held beliefs that shape what matters most to us in life, guiding our decisions, priorities, and behavior. When our actions align with these core values, we feel fulfilled and content. When they don’t, we may experience dissatisfaction or internal conflicts. When this happens, we should reflect on meaningful moments in our life that can help us identify our core values so we can prioritize them.
In an organizational setting, understanding and articulating these core values is crucial because they shape the culture, guide decision-making, and influence employee behavior. When employees’ personal values align with the organization’s core values, they tend to be more engaged, motivated, and committed, which fosters a positive work environment. Clearly articulated organizational values provides a framework for consistent decisions, support fair conflict resolution, and help attract and retain talent whose priorities match the company’s culture. Additionally, values-driven organizations build trust with customers, partners, and the broader community, enhancing their reputation and long-term success.
In my personal life, I would want my core values to align with my company’s values because then I would be able to more easily make decisions that affect both my company and me in a positive and more meaningful/effective way. I wouldn’t have to go against any of my morals or beliefs to fit into the company’s values, which ultimately would be the best option for me and many others.
